Agreed but Adobe has built a rod for its own back. They have constructed one of the most confusing major build numbering systems I've seen, similar to Microsoft Windows version numbering.
I don't blame any newbie for not understanding the differences between CC and CC 2014 - or even why a completely new major number was necessary. That took me by surprise too.
Build number works OK to distinguish between them.
