I can't resize the Illustrator window on my Mac

I'm using CS6 and can't reach to the bottom corner of the window to resize it smaller. I've tried changing my resolution to a smaller size to no avail. Resolution is 2560x1440. The photo is the what I can see.

I know I can hit F to change screen modes to see everything but all my documents open maximized so even when I hit the F key I see the bottom corner of the

layers panel and can resize that but then can't resize the bottom right corner at all. See photo when in F mode below:

Is there a way to fix this?
